Shiatsu (指圧 Japanese from shi, meaning finger, and atsu, meaning pressure) is a traditional hands-on therapy originating in Japan, which evolved from a traditional Chinese massage (Tuina). At the beginning of the 20th century, different styles of energetic body work and manual treatment methods were combined in Japan and were finally unified under the name Shiatsu to distance itself from purely recreational massages. Literally, Shiatsu means “finger pressure”, however, the treatment includes much more: The massager employs his or her whole body and its weight rather than muscle power to carry out the treatment. During the treatment, it is attempted to create an “energetic relationship” (energy in the meaning of Qi) between the massager and the client.
While being treated, the client can wear comfortable sports clothing or casual clothing.
